Cognizance updates

COGNIZANCE 2009 is set to introduce following new dimensions into its already glorious repertoire:
· Keeping in perspective the glaring problems of Pollution, Wasteful Resource Management and Global Warming, Cognizance 2009 propounds the theme "THINK ENERGY GO GREEN".

· Cognizance, for the first time, is anticipating International Participation from technical strata across the world, which will showcase the intellectual aptitude of Technocrats from outside India and pave a path for long term future association between the IIT Roorkee and the concerned Universities.

Cognizance is organizing loads of event spreading the awareness regarding energy conservation like
· Solar Powered Robotics Event (Robosapiens),
· Innovative Product and Concept Design on "Green Energy", etc.
· Keeping in perspective the glaring problems of Pollution, Wasteful Resource Management and Global Warming, "Ek Soch: Prakriti aur Urja", which is a National Level paper presentation competition. Through this we plan to fulfil our objective of Invoking Youth, Sharing Knowledge about the need of using green energy.

Other novel ideas for this year's Cognizance are:

• Greenhorns will select school students internationally as well as nationally, through a first online round, and give them an orientation with IIT Roorkee
• Apart from that we are going to organize Robotics Outreach Program: robotics workshops in various colleges, of whose will get direct entry to second round of Robosapiens.
• We are having plethora of online events, each for a department which are going to start from 31st Jan.
• A workshop on terrorism will be organized in association with Forensics Science Laboratory in which will make people aware of how organizations like ATS work, and a presentation on bio-terrorism. It is worth knowing that Govt. of India estimates that next attack on India can be a bio-chemical attack.
• ICCR (Indian Council for cultural Relations) has agreed to sponsor the travel of Nobel laureates and eminent personalities of global repute, as our Associate Title sponsor.
• Our midnight programming contest Insomnia has grown multifold this year with the event going online and international, this year it is starting from 1st February, 2009 whereas earlier it was conducted only for one day in Cognizance.
• Being in coherence of our theme, we are organizing a workshop based on the use of renewable energy in Robots,Renewbotics
• AutoBotz, microcontroller based introductory autonomous robotics workshop in which you learn the art of making autonomous robots, and will help clear concepts related to embedded systems, artificial intelligence and automation

Cognizance, The Annual Technical Festival of IIT Roorkee, is an agglomeration of over 150 events which encompass every wavelength of an entire technical spectrum. Commenced in 2003, cognizance has emerged as the second largest festival of its kind in the Indian subcontinent and many of its core events witness a participation numbering in thousands.

Today it is known across the country for helping students showcase their talents at the institute level as well as in discipline specific events. In 2008, Cognizance hosted over 7500 students of more than 900 technical and management institutes from all over the country. In addition, this year we anticipate international participation of more than 150 students of various technical fields from across the globe. These congregations of students from various national and foreign institutes are also given company by internationally and nationally renowned experts of various spheres of academics and the corporate industry.

Departing from the de rigueur format, this year's theme is THINK ENERGY GO GREEN. It was thoughtfully chosen for our endeavor to work towards spreading social awareness and ecological literacy to all our participating students this year. We believe that knowledge must aim towards change for the betterment of the individual, society and environment.

The fact, that it brings people from various academic, social and regional backgrounds in one arena to foster an atmosphere in which they can present their ideas, reckon their ability, and learn new concepts through an application oriented approach, makes cognizance unique in its league.

It is an enthralling kaleidoscope of intellectually invigorating events like Robosapiens, NexCEO, Prodesk, TechExpo, Chaos, Illushun, Quizzotica, workshops, guest lectures and many more; which are designed to fuel innovation and stimulation and test rigorously the participating students. These ingredients perfectly blend into this celebration of knowledge, experimentation and learning. It witnesses a congregation of widest spectra of students from various national and foreign institutes, along with experts of international repute from the academia and industry. Apart from the events at the institute level, the students are also given a chance to showcase their talent in discipline specific events comprising of technology as well as management related fields. Cognizance has something in store for all, as in many events you can participate on the spot, exercise and tease your grey cells; and in the process make some green paper and win loads of goodies.
